Why we formed the York College of Pennsylvania Criminal Justice Alumni Association:

After graduating and formally entering the criminal justice field, many of us found the most difficult barrier to our professional advancement and job performance was a lack of information exchange. Contrary to public perception, Criminal Justice entities, government firms, and private organizations rarely share data and insights openly. Survival and advancement in this field becomes difficult at best when the development of relationships with individuals in various key agencies is absent. Many of us have relied on calling our fellow graduates and friends as a means of effectively getting things done!

While growing to depend on our fellow York College graduates, the existing network was a loose ad-hoc scenario at its best. The idea eventually grew that a formal network of York College graduates encompassing all professionals involved in the criminal justice field would provide an enormous benefit to current criminal justice practitioners, graduating students, alumni, and York College faculty.

In the fall of 2005, several of us met and formally began the York College Criminal Justice Alumni Association. We are not officially endorsed by York College, but have some faculty involvement. Everything we have accomplished and plan to endeavor is the result of our own time and money.

So please, become involved. If you simply join as a member you thereby become available to other graduates and professionals working in the field; and they become available to you.

You may need case information involving an arrest in New York City Police, ideas for training staff, or hiring opportunities with local Parole Departments. You never know when your fellow York College graduates may be able to help you. Our goal is to create an organization that fosters a cooperative effort between all practicing criminal justice professionals with a common York College background.
