York College Alumni Play Leading Role in Investigation Program
The International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO) now offers an investigation certificate program. The Crime and Loss Investigation Program was developed due to a need for relevant training for entry-level investigators. Contemporary investigation involves background, undercover, surveillance and intelligence analysis. Additionally, working investigators need a broadening of investigative knowledge in order to advance in their carers. Career transitions may be made more easily such as government investigators move into corporate security or private investigation. Security officers may become supervisors. Police officers may become detectives.
All of these personnel need professional growth and development.
To address these needs the IFPO developed a program available through distance learning. The Crime and Loss Investigation Program uses several texts as well as a series of online papers. There is website support in the form of practice examinations and online tutorials.
A 10 person committee was formed to design the Program. This committee was comprised of police, corporate, private and federal investigators from the US, Canada and Europe. Several York College of Pennsylvania alumni contributed to the Program development. Robert Metscher, Galen Stabley, Michael Dannecker, Chris Hoffman, Mark Landry, Brion Gilbride and Whitney Gunter served on the program development committee. They also authored sections of the Program.
York College has led Criminal Justice education since 1969. The College offers a varied curriculum emphasizing both research and experiential learning opportunities. All York college students complete several research courses and a practicum/internship with a Criminal Justice agency. York College students receive scholarships in the form of tuition waivers for IFPO programs so that they may advance their careers more easily. In addition, Foundation programs are woven into select courses offered during the evening.
Many persons holding leadership positions in Criminal Justice and Security are among the York College Alumni. The alumni from the Criminal Justice Administration program have been involved in numerous professional and academic initiatives. They have formed the York College of Pennsylvania Alumni Association to further networking and training opportunities.
The International Foundation for Protection Officers is a non-profit educational organization. The Foundation provides for training and certification of security personnel as well as publications, distance learning programs and instructor development. The foundation website may be visited at ifpo.org.
